Of course it matters. ALW and Jim collaborated on WDTW and it wasn't really commercially successful. WDTW spawned ALW's biggest hit and has a fantastic score IMO, so your theory is little out of whack.

No it doesn't. You compared Tanz to Jekyll & Hyde's run on Broadway, so that's the show that can only be used as a comparison, and that's the version that's crap. If the alternate version has the same songs in it, then that would be crap too. The songs in Jekyll & Hyde to me are shit.
