I think most of that deletion stuff comes from his own insecurity and is now intense paranoia afraid of doing something wrong. When you are merely the singer I guess this will happen. Many artists start losing their voice or go through voice changes at that age; Springsteen , Phil Collins (really losing the voice unfortunately), Neil Diamond, Tom Jones, Billy Joel. I think they all sound rougher, deeper, less pure. To me this brings a form of authenticity to their voices, a sense of having lived. I think it's crazy to expect anyone at 63 to sound like they are 30. Maybe Cliff Richard is the exception. But I really don't like that voice due to lack of roughness, emotion, feeling, it's too pure (in my opinion). I'm glad Meat Loaf has sounded a lot better on the last tour than he did on 3 Bats etc. I still think he sounds pretty good most of the times and certainly in the studio I can't fault him at all. I'd rather hear him sing than not. You don't have to listen, it's your choice. Fact is Steinman himself remarked that Meat's voice was good on Bat 3. I think he was even better on HCTB though those songs mostly don't appeal to me at all. Who else do you suggest Steinman working with to gain some form of credibility again? I hear constant bashing but no ideas from you at all. Surely you think Bonnie has lost it too then? | |
