In the summer of 2004 I scrambled to find resources that would give me information about Jim Steinman. I went to the internet search engines and typed in the name, getting resources like Neverland Hotel, The Jim Steinman Temple, Realm of Dreams, and Dream Pollution. I read each one with the same interest, before I began to sort out the fact, which was not obvious at first, that Dream Pollution was the "official" website, with the actual address of jimsteinman.com. I then tended to use the information gathered on this site as the authority for the questions I wanted to find answers to, when other websites gave me questions to ask. But I started out, knowing absolutely nothing. In this way, Jacqueline is so very much appreciated by me, because she created such a resource that was invaluable to me. For internet, I had the occassional access to the library, and I had a cellphone which had some internet access. The texts of the articles came through on the little browser in my Nokia, and they were very educational. But they didn't tell me everything that I wanted to know. What they told, was more than I knew.

I wanted so much to find information then because of the information I found that there was some relevency to me, that gave me a personal need to know. Otherwise I was content to leave the composers writing their songs and the singers singing them, the website writers writing their websites, and the fan community without the slightest familiarity of or from me at all.

What you call "shit", the information I gathered which was personal to me, my own personal ties with the person of my concern demanded that I learn. Demanded. I would much rather he had told me over a couple of pastries in 1992 at Beverly Center. But that was not the way he wanted it, not the way he needed it, and not the way it was. It was the fact that he told me over coffee at a friends' house five years earlier and he was not going to repeat it. So now, fast forward 2004 and three years later, and I can be content knowing the things that I know, the person of my concern can be content with my knowing the things he knows I know, and what else is there? Is there really a need to bother you all about it? That depends.

What does it depend on? Probably that is the next thing I need to know. But in the meantime, what I can share with you is a text I found on this website, which would seem to open the door to the larger view I offer, and I hope you'll see it that way. I didn't write this: It is at jimsteinman.com/peterpan.htm and the text is:

He says his high school grades were so undistinguished that his Hewlett High School guidance counselor refused to sign his application to Amherst. Steinman believes he was accepted to the prestigious college only because he lied so creatively about how he had spent his summer vacation: hiking through the "Blue Mountains of Kentucky," writing an opera based on James Joyce's "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man," which, he adds, he had not even read, much less adapted.

"That taught me an important lesson, that I could create myself," Steinman said. "In a way, lying is a kind of creativity." He added: "I've done a lot of great stuff that started out as pure faking or lying. A lot of the lies I made I had to live up to. I had to stay at Amherst, and I did become the kind of person who would hike through the Blue Mountains and write that opera."

Steinman has also demonstrated a talent for taking creative liberties with reporters on occasion. He told a writer for Sounds Magazine that his singing voice was damaged after a 6-foot-2-inch lady biker with a tattoo busted his nose. (In truth, he suffered complications arising from an operation on a deviated septum.)

I keep telling you that there are two highly cooperative, highly intelligent men who came together to create the Amherst-educated composer in the name Jim Steinman. Whatever you may believe, it is not that I am libeling someone; I am actually giving each one of them their autonomous identities unto themselves, and they each are dignified within it. If you don't understand that, it is not outside realm for questions to be asked and I giving answers as I can understand them. Your questions may help me understand it even more, myself. I give you my respect, and my Zen.

Jacqueline, you are truly highly appreciated.
