| Fucking Odd! That pretty much describes my night! Perhaps it would have been better if i were drunk..... This was my 3rd concert this week (White Stripes, Lifehouse + Goo Goo Dolls) and by far the worst! Some random notes / thoughts from tonight: 1) I had great seats that i acquired 3 hours before the show... they were the seats reserved for band's friends and family and was right next to john miceli's family. They were from NY and the most annoying fuckers ever! they wouldn't let anyone stand and they kept talking on their cellphones. 2)Susan sat on my left side. I swear to God! This woman told me that i was far to young to understand Meat Loaf and what a great songwriter he is! i then mentioned the fact that steinman wrote the songs and she informed me that he wrote rocky horror and that meat loaf left rocky horror to write Bat Out of Hell. I was sooo fucking confused... then she turned to me and said "i hear he is loud, so i brought ear plugs so i don't have to hear anything!"....WTF? so on one side i had people who didn't want Standing.. on the other side was Crazy Susan w/ ear plugs..... 3) So the show starts without meat loaf. The the band + Aspen & CC do All reved up reprise thingy..... then BREAK IT starts - - suddenly these blow-up dolls shoot up from the stage... they looks like crankyanker characters faces on giant dildo's with arms... it had nothing to do with anything and it was imposible to take the song seriously. 4)In addition Loaf was completly out of it. Forgetting lyrics singing the chorus and verses in the wrong spot. Durring lemon people cheered at the "I want my money back" part - no doubt they wanted a refund! 5) PIG was great - i loved the video and Meat's vocals came together nicely. However, many old people left at this point... but the young people really reacted to it (all 12 of us!) 6) I;'m not gonna go song by song... but my main complaint is with the band... it was like they tried to take all the steinmanesque elements out of hte songs... they only really used the piano once, during objects, and 1/2 the time the songs sounded nothing like the originals. Its like when you dub a tape and by the time you get to the 10th generation tape it sounds nothing like the original..... 7) Before OBJECTS loaf stopped the show to catch his breath and apologize for sucking during the previous songs.... he seemed delirious, he couldn't remember anything, and would forget what he was talking about 1/2 through a sentence - the band was laughing at him but i really think he's got some serious memory problems. So he apologized & blamed everything on his stomach cause he went to the BBQ place and got ribs with the XXX HOT SAUCE and he claimed his ass was on fire or something.... he made numerous jokes throughout the night about his sexy ass. 8) Anything for love started with "some nights come hard, other nights don't come easy" it was a TOTAL disaster the crowd had NO IDEA what song it was... the piano part was edited to like 3 keys that they repeated over and over and it sounded nothing like the song... 9) His vocals were in and out throughout the night but the timing was so far off and he was almost babbling like a little delirious child that the poor vocals almost seemed secondary. + The band sucked so bad to the point where it was hard to tell what song they were playing. 10) After the break - he came back on fire! THE VOCALS WERE THE BEST I'VE HEARD and they were live! He didn't forget anything (though it was just paradise and Bat so he's not likely to foget those) and the band sounded great for the last 2. For paradise he dressed up like himself (in the 70's) and actually looked more like Dean Torkington LOL LOL LOL 11) Wed night i was stuck in traffic forever so i decided to jump out early before the encore. I'm gonna try and see him again in boston next month, hopefully they get their act together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! overall i give the show a D- I never once felt what i usually feel it was missing the passion. Usually when the voice struggles he still has the passion and electricity and puts on a great show - tonight, despite his strong second 1/2, he struggled and the show lacked just about everything. Just my opinion -J | |
