| Sort of connected to the previous thread is the question of what media turned you onto Jim's music in the first place. For many of us it must surely be television. When I saw Meat Loaf and Jim and Karla DeVito on the Old Grey Whistle Test performing BOOH The Song (which did well as a single in the UK but apparently not in America), I was blown away by a group of people I had never heard of before. It was so different to anything else I had experienced. Televison also introduced me to TEOTH. I saw the video on Top Of The Pops before hearing it on the radio. Again, the Anything For Love video on the same show, some years later, rekindled my love for Jim's compositions. Radio introduced me to Jim's version of Rock And Roll Dreams Come Thorugh. That was a different kind of experience. I went into the hardware store feeling down and while I was in line (they were blasting out Radio 2), the DJ Terry Wogan said: "This is Jim Steinman's Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through". Fortunately the line in the shop was long and I heard the whole thing. I found it so powerful and optomisitc that I left the shop feeling up with my depression gone. I think the radio experience is different from the television experience. When I was young a friend introduced me to The Beatles (the Revolver Album - at the time I only knew Wings). I wonder if any posters were introduced to Jim's music by a friend? I know that I have been introduced to some of Jim's works by infromation that I have read on this board. My thanks to those posters who helped me to become a more complete Jim fan. | |
