| Sorry to start a new thread but I've just read a post from Rob which is way, way down the board. I'm not sure what kind of mood he was in but I will do my best to answer his points. This is an open letter and other board members should feel free to make comments or ask questions. Rob writes: "Thanks for answering (some of) my questions". You are most welcome. Rob writes: "I can understand there being a gagging order on specific details, but I have to say that I don't see the reason why you're unable to confirm if a director is on board (I'm not asking you to name him or her) unless there isn't one. Which is worrying." Please don't worry. There is a director on board. I don't envy his job. Trying to bring the show to life will not be an easy task. Rob writes: "I'm glad to hear that your mum is working on the musical every day (in between her Cliff Richard commitments of course) but I do wonder what sort of work she is doing." Oh my goodness. All sorts of things. There are creative problems and financial problems. Rob writes: "Is there any chance she could turn her attention to the "official" website and maybe do something to turn around the pissed off fans who are waiting for an email 9 months after the site was launched?" I think I told you that I felt bad for those people who signed up and recieved nothing. If the "official" website is still up, then it should be taken down, because the people who designed it are long gone. They are the same people who paid for the hugely expensive Evening Standard ad. In my humble opinion, it achieved very little. Since you don't know the way things are structured, you shouldn't jump to conclusions and blame my mother for the "official" website. You asked if there would be future ads. Of course there will be but hopefully they will have a proper machine behind them. Rob writes: "Surely it's not beyond the wit of the creative team to come up with something to whet the appetite? Here's a little template they can use free of charge:" The creative team are not interested in public relations. They are into the script, the music, the costumes, etc. The production team will wet your appetite as soon as possible. They don't want to do anything prematurely, especially after the Evening Standard ad experience. Rob writes (as part of his suggested template): ""Thank you for your interest in Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell. The musical is expected to debut somewhere in London, sometime in the future."" That's true. Although you know that, don't you? Rob writes: "It may or may not include songs from Jim Steinman's impressive back catalogue, and it may or may not include songs and monologues specifically written for the show." Of course its going to include songs from Jim's back catalogue. How could they do "BOOH The Musical" without songs like "Bat", "Paradise" or "Anything For Love"? You don't need me to tell you that. Rob writes: "It may or may not have a director" See above. Rob writes: "and it may or may not have an art director (but not that Gerald Scarfe - oh no, not him. Or that Jane Asher)." I don't know if there is an art director. There is a production designer. If that's what you mean. Ages and ages ago I wrote on the board that Scarfe was no longer involved. He's so busy with the new production of "The Wall", I don't think he cares. Jane Asher was never involved. She sat in production meetings doing needlepoint and sometimes she answered questions about Paul McCartney. Rob writes: "It may have motorcycles. And acrobats. Or it may not. Oh, and fire was mentioned once. Maybe." All three things you mention are likely to be in the show. Again, this is just stating the bleeding obvious. How can you have "BOOH The Musical" without motorcycles and fire? Rob writes: "Steve Margoshes might be playing the piano." Steve Margoshes is doing the arrangements. I don't think he will be playing the piano. Again, I am stating the bleeding obvious. Who else would be doing the arrangements? Steve is a genius. Jim always uses him. I think. Doesn't he? Rob writes: "We might have an orchestra. Then again Jeff Bova has promised to bring his Casio keyboard so maybe we won't need actual musicians. You can do wonderful things with those electronic keyboard thingys these days." Again, you can work this out without me telling you. I have already stated on the board (with permission from the production team) that Kasim will be in charge of the band-orchestra. I watched "Meat Loaf: In Search Of Paradise" the other day and the band was really tight. Since Kasim was the band leader and has now left Meat, I think he is the perfect person to be doing the band for BOOH. Actually Dave agreed with me on BatMusical ages ago. Of course there may be sounds that Jeff Bova will create but what's wrong with that? I doubt that he will be using a Casio. Rob writes: "Did we mention there might be bikes?"" I think so. Rob writes: "I hope that helps take some of the load of the creative team's shoulders." How kind of you. Rob writes: "I can well understand what a bugger it must be to actually respond to their own advertising drive. I mean what a drag - you put an advert in the Evening Standard and suddenly every bugger and his dog signs up to your official website. And they actually expect the odd update!" Its not the creative team's fault. The director and the choreographer would be horrified if they knew that Rob blamed them for the Evening Standard ad. Rob writes: "Oh, and Caveman is the walrus - coo coo a choo. Seriously, if they're still trying to work that one out then there truly is no hope in hell or anywhere else." Since I asked you the question the riddle has been solved. It was who we suspected. There was only one person who would have the exact but limited knowledge that Caveman has. Nobody wants to confront him. The curiosity was slightly irritating but he has done no real harm. | |
