No answers Eric, just speculation from me I'm afraid ;)
I've not listened to either the remasters of Bat II or Pandora's Box yet, but from what I've heard they both 'suffer' from too much compression (which is slightly ludicrous considering the spatiousness of the Jim sound!)
What I will say is that I believe that Japanese mixes of albums tend to be better if you prefer less compression. I guess that since the fad for compression is fairly recent, older versions of the cd albums might have a better sound to them...
A quick search has yielded a couple of results for Dead Ringer as FLACs which might be worth a listen.
Good quality remasters of both Dead Ringer and Bad for Good are loonngg overdue.
