There are some interesting comments on the You Tube page for Barry's version (I am not saying that I agree with them but perhaps they might stimulate some debate here).

@corneliu2007 writes:

"Sorry, I'm a Steinman fan, and Meat's vocals on the album version and the few times he did perform it live are bad. He sounds like his vocal chords are having a collective hernia. Maybe if he recorded it in the late 80s it might have been a different story. Give me Manilow's version any day. Just compare the production on the two studio versions alone."

RachelLee113 writes

"Wow, how freaking sexy is this? Barry owns this song. Meatloaf just screams when he sings. Where is Meatloaf now? Being emotional in a reality show? Haha! Barry reigns supreme, my friends."

RachelLee113 also writes:

"Barry just released a new album 2 weeks ago and has a multimillion dollar contract with Paris Las Vegas. We just have different musical tastes I guess. I like his wild gestures I guess. I don't care for Meatloaf's voice. That's all. I have a soft spot for Barry. I am not sure why, I just do."

Fenechboy11 writes:

"How exactly does he 'own' the song? It's a flat, emotionless performance. Making wild gestures =/= emotion. There's more to singing than just hitting the notes. And by that very same logic, what exactly is Barry doing? At least Meat Loaf is still recording and touring ;P"

MARTIN90MATON writes:

"wheres the passion and flowing mellody this song deserves, you cant compare this to meat loafs version, for a start its in about 4 keys lower. Listen to the end of this, barrys crazzed his voice singing it this low!!"

corneliu2007 writes:

"Doesnt even compare with Meat Loaf 's voice and performance!"

charlo512 writes:

"Thank you so much for posting this, I absolutely LOVE his rendition! I love Meatloaf's also but Barry version was so passionate and deeply moving and I kinda like that he left the weep off the ending and made it more dramatic. Great song."

lyngoodwin writes:

"I am no singer but I would imagine this is a very difficult song to learn and even harder to sing !!! Well done BM."

I have to agree with this last comment. Jim's songs tend to be difficult to sing. I admire anyone who attempts them. Both Meat Loaf and Barry Manilow.
