| Old Songs 1. Meat wanted Frying Pan & Rock & Roll Dreams, and Jim didn't mind as they were 'originally intended for him'. 2. Meat's wife at the time, Leslie, wanted Lost Boys & Golden Girls, as it was her favourite song, and she obviously persuaded Meat and/or Jim. 3. Jim wanted It Just Won't Quit, as it was 'written definately with Meat Loaf in mind...a song about obsession...' Jim also wanted Wasted Youth, probably as it was left off Bat 1. 4. No idea why Good Girls was chosen, and Pandora's Box version is preferable. New Songs 1. Anything For Love was the first song written, probably around '88/'89, followed by Lemon, which was developed from Eddie Martinez's guitar riff, and therefore suggests Jim completed it during the recording sessions. 2. Bat 2 was 'completed', when Jim decided to write two more songs, Louder & finally Objects, 'at the last minute'. Demos 1. I would suggest a demo for Anything For Love exists, as it was suggested/offered to ELO 2, around 1990. Don't know who's vocal, but not Kyle Gordon, as I don't think Jim started using him until the mid-90's? 2. Have no idea if other demos exist. There would be no need for the older songs, as the originals were effectively the demos? 3. As Objects was written at the last minute, I would say there is no demo, other than Meat's various vocal takes. 4. Various female vocalists recorded the duet part in Anything For Love, including I think Melissa Etheridge, but Jim favoured Lorraine Crosby's vocal. Therefore, there are probably lots of alternate session takes for Bat 2, but I would suggest not many 'demos' (ie recorded well before the sessions started). Vocal Inspiration No idea who Chris Sokol is, but I would suggest either Jim and/or Meat know him, and he came up with the title or was always using it on a daily basis, which maybe prompted Jim to write the song? Who knows, but it would be cool if Jim offered up anecdotes about his recording sessions over the years?? | |
