I think it would help a lot. The three shows ALW has done were pretty good, but were revivals of old shows. I think a Bat show would have a 'unique selling point' in that it would be the first TV casting show of a NEW musical. The ALW shows have been pretty bland in terms of the studio staging and the band/orchestra are more or less kept in the dark, at the rear of the studio. I say deck the studios out with some of the musical staging/scenery and have a rock band more prominent in the song performances (you can keep the strings/horns tucked away, but not the band). Also the audience should be more of a 'rock crowd' and standing (as opposed to sitting in the ALW shows). I guess I'm thinking of a cross between the ALW shows and Rockstar:INXS (if anyone saw that). I can also see a segment (within the show) each week, showing Jim in the studio recording the concept CD. The vocalist/artist featured that week, then comes into the studio to perform the track live on the night (which would no doubt boost sales of the CD). To summarise, you can more or less pre-determine the finalists in regards casting, so the question of getting the right people is null & void? The TV show is more about promotion and it would work great in the UK, as Bat is probably loved here more than any other country. On Broadway they just cast > hollywood actors for their publicity.
