I agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. I think we all want the Bat musical to be a great piece of art, and in turn have great singers & actors. However, a musical (especially an expensive one) has to be thought as, as 'product'. Even Jim is doing it with his clothing line, jewellery, concept CD etc etc. In regards a TV casting show, it does seem the best way (at the moment) to get maximum coverage for an upcoming musical, and hopefully in turn big advance ticket sales. I can guarantee every producer/investor in Bat, would love some type of prime-time TV 'casting' show advertising the musical. And let's face it, the 'casting' element is nonsense. I'm sure with the shows ALW did, he has planted people he would want (certainly Lee Mead in the Joseph show & Jade in Eurovision), and has thereby guaranteed 1 or 2 that he favours, to make it to the final. Jim could do the same 'pre-selection', and you don't really have a problem? I'm thinking they cast Wendy through a TV show, and Peter & Hook (the more pivotal roles?), via 'normal' casting procedures. | |
