I assume youre not a typlical movie goer then. Face it, the majority of audiences dont want to see a 3 hour musical on screen. That's exactly the reason why most msuical-dvds are financial failures.
You have to be brave and do some changes, which was my initial point, otherwise it will bomb at the box office just as DOTV did on broadway.
As for the casting: Musical actors and movie actors have completely different qualities. If you woould cast professionally trained stage actors, it would be totally over the top and not suited the big screen.
I'd rather have a really good movie actor who goes through a bit of musical training instead. That way we wont get the best version ever, musically, but that's not the point of it. If I wanted to see that I'd go to the theatre. In the cinema I want to see a good adaption.
